true that tech can replace weaknesses. but it's difficult to start out in the beginning....

I'm probably going to customize my race, better that way, IMO.

Customization definitly.

But what is better, to improve weak points of the specie, or to make strong side(s) even stronger?

if you don't cover your weak points, you're bound to suffer quicker.

ie, suppose you take martial arts and only practice using hands in combat. Your weak point is your legs (normally, you wouldn't crouch while fighting). If someone attacked your legs, you're going to lose the fight. Then again, if you have first strike, that might be different......

So, if you can strike first (ie build a fast ship in Moo3), just stick with guns and speed, and don't worry too much about defense. But you have to be ready when the enemy will strike at your weak spot....

I'm planning to build fast ships with long range weapons (some laser type weapon). just flank the enemy from afar. smile.gif

I may also build a second fleet consisting of large battleships (with stellar converters @ 1000 damage and medium range) that can cloak, to complement the fast attack ships mentioned above.

Hmm, I think the very fast long range ships would work well, as the enmy couldn't really keep up with you. If you mounted all your guns and shields on the rear, you could simply let them chase you whilst you blow them to hell biggrin.gif Another tactic I would use is the big battleship charge, cross their T and the like, old naval style. Otherwise for races I usually prefer diplomacy and science, so I'm thinking maybe customising the Klackons to this end would be best, but I'm not really sure how free the customisation is. Could you make the Psilons a super-tough stupid race of undisciplined warriors?

I'll update my html table to show the restrictions as well as the race characteristics.

here's the link to the restrictions anyways.
linky

been very busy with my school work, but I'm somewhat ahead of schedule smile.gif

but the problem with my fast attack fleet, is that can it out run missiles? The enemy could consists of a fleet of missile boats...., this is where I consider putting a cloaking device to evade them, or install the moo3 equivalent of a lightning field/shield.

Missiles? In an evasion fleet? You'd need to shoot them forward I'm guessing, and if you want to run away, you put most of your guns on the sides/rear. Unless you plan for lighting quick passes. Missiles I'm guessing can run out, as they did in MoO2. But hey you can always ram... wink.gif Thanks for the tables BTW.

I just re-read the post and I now realise I misunderstood. I guess the real question is, how fast are you, and how fast are the missiles? I'm guessing they're faster, but at long ranges, in a 3D Environment, it should be too hard to avoid them... unless they've got very good lock-ons.

Hmm, but is that best allround, or do they have some outstanding atribute that puts them a head above the rest?

I think when customizing a race you should enhance their strengths, at the expense of improving a weakness. Sometimes the weaknesses are able to be overcome with newer technology. unsure.gif

Ahh, but if the weakness cannot be overcome by technology? Then one is put at a disadvantage throughout the game, unless his Strength makes up for it it a better way. Having weak intelligence operations, may allow things to be stolen, but it you have a mighty military no-one's going to get it cheaply. And I'm sure others can be coerced into giving rights of passage.... cool.gif So perhaps your theory is correct.

in moo 1 ( my forte ) the brulthia ( however you spell them ) were really fun to play with because of how much power transports had. however i normally ( well not "normally" 'cause it got to easy ) play with da klackons.

The trick in customizing a race is to give it talents that enable it to overcome it's weaknesses one way or another. Boosting a weakness to make a race average does just that, make the race average. Then luck plays too much of a factor in the game.

Just my humble opinion. smile.gif
