Hello everybody, nice to see a place where MoO 3 is still alive smile.gif

I played this game many times, but now I started to play it seriously tongue.gif

And one thing completely killing me... When I fight with an opponent fighters when they shot, they damaging my shield and hull, but NOT armor. I can see only blue and red dmg type sad.gif
For few games I thought that they have some Armor Piercing add-on to fighters, but when I read more in the net, I realize that AP mod is only for laser fighters... And those are not laser fighters.
Besides, AP should ignore 25% armor (in short) not ignore it at all, right? (ok, here I have to convince that my weapon direct weapons with AP also ignore armor, at least it looks like that - Phazors with AP gives only blue/red dmg).
Then I read that AP doesn't work at all... Hm... Now I do not understand it at all...

I am using 1.2.5 mod, Strawberry, 1024x768 mod and this .exe patcher by Bhruic.

AP works. it was fixed in the 1.2 bug fix
IIRQ the formula for hitting Armor is (current Armor)/(full Armour)*(AP)
IIRQ the formula for damaging Armor is if (armor is hit) then if (DMG to Armor > Armor stoping power) then (DMG to Armor)=(weapon DMG) else DMG=0

a weak weapon can do 0 Armor DMG but still do some Hull DMG
a weak AP weapon will do more Hull DMG then the non AP

But Phaser/Ion fighters - those are what AI is using - can go through my armor not touching it and deal dmg direct to hull?

If so, why my fighters cannot do this but need to hit armor? I also use Phaser Fighters...

I think it's cause the deflection of your ships armor is higher then the damage of the enemy ships. and the armor piercing effect always works regardless of the armor's deflection.

Basically i think your armor's deflection is better then the enemies and so your armor doesn't get damaged and only the AP damage hits the hull, while your enemies deflection armor is lower then the damage of the phasors and in this case the armor gets eaten. The damage of the fired shots that hits the hull should be the same percent on both you and your opponent.

This pretty much is the same thing Danib wrote.

non AP weapon DMG 4
armor at 100% deflection 5
-all hit will do 0 damage

non AP weapon DMG 4
armor at 50% deflection 5
-50% of hits will hit Hull doing 4 damage
-50% of hits will hit armor doing 0 damage

AP weapon DMG 4
armor at 100% deflection 5
-25% of hits will hit Hull doing 4 damage
-75% of hits will hit armor doing 0 damage

AP weapon DMG 4
armor at 50% deflection 5
-62.5% of hits will hit Hull doing 4 damage
-37.5% of hits will hit armor doing 0 damage

Oh, now I get it... If my armor can deflect regular phasors, AP phasors can still dmg my hull...

But still think those fighters are wrong for me - when they approach my armor is at 100%, neutronium, very heavy armor:
Neutronium - ArmorValue 800 Deflection 14
VHA - ArmorMult 8,00 DeflectMult 1,75
So Deflection is 25,5
Fighter Phasors do 24 dmg (IC). The only add-on is Dual Pod (MultiFire x2 what gives 2 at all). No AP (AP worth = 1). At 100% my armor should stand it, even if fighter swarm is counting as one shot, and my deflection cant stop all (let's say whole damage by swarm is 3000) rest should rather go to armor, not directly to hull?
Or this worth of AP=1 still have soem AP power?
Pls correct me if I understood something wrong.

dos the autobuild mix fighters?
in tropical i have 2 lines for 2 types mix
1 for numbers and 1 for fire power

do you get hit by missiles?
a hit will blow a hole in the armor allowing some hit to go AP (example 2)

extra
"Phaser/Ion fighters"
Fighter Ion Pulse Cannon ,ArmrPier=0,ShldPen=0.5
all FIPC sots do 50% DMG to hull ignoring armor until shield is at 0 then thy do 100% DMG to hull

Hm... Now I think about re-design my carriers and put there Ion Fighters only. With dual Ion Pods. Right now I am using Phaser Fighters with Dual Pod.

did you use the autobuider?
if the formula was written correctly (and in tropical thay wer)
you suld get the best weapon for your thec
calculated to give the fastest kill by waing the saige(bigness),FD,Multi,AP,SP,mods,ACC, and DMG at the appropriate range

I design ships for my own. After I read what you wrote, I built Carriers with Ion Fighters. TF with 10 Carriers with 75 fighters each. 3x TF in Strike Fleet... Nice! smile.gif

then chaing it to wat you like
