Hi!
First time poster here (as the post count will momentarily demonstrate). Recently I started playing MoO3 again and took notice of an abortive attempt to create my own mod based, in part, of the old Ethos Mod. After puttering around with my Mac for a bit I refigured out what I'd been attempting to do (essentially: play balance and race differentiation all in one go through expansion of the Ethos concept as well as braking down other picks into overall capacity as well as what might be called "business model" and cultural preferences ... these last featuring trade offs where some bad is often found with the good and some good is realized to offset the bad ... i.e. you give something for what you get and what you give up is a function of what you get — so for a race utterly unpicky about what they eat there is the "Subsistence" pick which boost BioHaEff but the value of what remains, BioHaSur, after everyone has eaten their fill is bad enough that this pick is an overall liability). Anyhoo, I thought to find a Windows copy of MoO3 so that I could take advantage of UOPs as well as proceed with my own mad schemes. I found the game at Half Price Books for $5 — which was great. But when I tried to used the Windows MoO3 patch to version 1.25 available here and through a link in the Strawberry UOP the program would no longer recognize my Play Disk — which was bad. Details: I've tried to install MoO3 on a PC laptop and on an Intel Mac with Wine. In both instances the unpatched v1 program ran as well as it does — even with my Mac version Play Disk when I tried it on the Intel Mac. In both instances (patching with both 1.25 and 1.2 patches — I tried that one too) neither Play Disk was recognized after patching. Clearly, there may be some issue with the official patches I know about and so I'm seeking a Windows 1.25 patch that will get me going. (Also, pointing out that the downloaded version may have issues is simply the right thing to do.) Also, I've glanced at the instructions — such as they are — for installing the UOP and ... well, I'll probably need some help in that department too. -------------------- Standup Philosopher

Thanks guys!
I actually seem to be having something of the same issue drainochild was having: clean install with the patch checker reporting no errors. I'm possibly the owner of a "bare bones release" too (no printed manuel was in the box) which may be significant (humorously: did Infogrames sell a "You're too cheap to not have to suck" CD set?). Wine (on the Intel MAC) DOES report... fixme:cdrom:CDROM_Verify not supported on this O/S fixme:ntdll:server_ioctl_file Unsupported ioctl 2d4800 (device=2d access=1 func=200 method=0) ... but since the same error happened on the laptop running XP and Wine appears to mimic the same O/S ... well ... could there be some missing dll they lack in common? Which leaves me, Chocolate aside, to try the grumoo3125 exe option mentioned in the thread ... know anyplace you trust to download that from? Lots of places list it but do I know them from Adam ... no. (Except for Return of the Ghostbusters fan movie and Macross:Do You Remember Love? I've never used a Torrent service.) Just a little more weirdness ... it seems on the XP laptop the play CD isn't needed to play v1.0.
I'll see if this is happens on the Mac later but could this mean that the reason that the (presumably) el cheapo box set has problems upgrading is that it wasn't protected in the first place and the subsequent patches mess that up? -------------------- Standup Philosopher

Found another thread about it here: No CD error
It seems that the easiest way to do it is to install the 1.2.5 patch and then Vanilla, Chocolate or Tropical mod since they all come with a NoCD-exe file. -------------------- |

Cool. Thanks! Glad to hear Vanilla has no-CD (because Chocolate is a little too chocolate-y). -------------------- Standup Philosopher
